Do you have a dog with separation anxiety?
If the answer is yes, then you have an addiction problem in the relationship between you and your dog. One or both of you can’t “let go.” Do you feel bad your dog is left alone after you leave? You likely have an unhealthy addiction in the relationship and a dog showing signs of separation anxiety.
1. Your dog screams constantly, therefore, begins to master anxious behaviors.
2. Barks short or extended amounts of time after you leave or ignore him.
3. Is destroying your personal belongings demonstrating the anxiety is worsening, for instance.
4. The dog receives free affection without any boundaries or rules.
5. The dog is an emotional crutch or support system with the capability. As a result, creating anxiety.
It’s not healthy or safe to live like this with your dog.
The addiction.
I label separation anxiety in dogs as an addiction because it’s behavior the dogs can’t control or fix by themselves. The dog doesn’t know what’s going on and it craves or desires a “hit”. The human is the supplier of these “hits”. We accidentally teach dogs to need, crave and be addicted to our presence and affection. We leave for work and shower them with sad goodbyes to return home consequently, reinforcing emotional greetings. Those exchanges are packed with emotional “hits” and your dog is addicted.
Hi, I’m Denise with family K9 Training in Orlando Florida. I train dogs and own my own Board & train service for dogs in Central Florida. I enroll dogs with separation anxiety and nervousness more than I’d care to count. If you’d love to hear how I can help you improve the anxiety in your dog please watch this live video I did with a friend and trainer on Facebook. The video also talks about the early signs and prevention of separation anxiety in dogs. As a result of popular demand, I made one in Spanish and English for your convenience. https://www.facebook.com/FamilyK9Training/ with http://begging4balance.com/.
